The cryptex is a device with a lockable hidden chamber-key and is believed to have been originally conceived in the 1500s by Leonardo da Vinci. Its purpose was to hide secret messages or items. It could not be opened without knowledge of its secret code. More recently the cryptex has appeared as an important object in the book, The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown. The cryptex fills the book with one challenge after another – becoming virtually a living character.
With the availability of the Encrypta cryptex, you can now give this invention as a very unique and special gift. The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown, in which a cryptex plays a major role, has become a run-away publishing success. Following that book, other authors have written critiques providing proof of its claims or disputing its truth. These books have analyzed it from both historical and religious perspectives. Others have written travel commentaries related to the book and there are even tours you can take that cover the same geography as described in the book.
Our primary interest in following the commentary about the truth and proof of The Da Vinci Code has been to learn how others might describe the history of the cryptex. Surprisingly, there has been almost no reference to the cryptex in the more than 90 books published about The Da Vinci Code. As a result, we are very interested in seeing how the The Da Vinci Code movie (due for release in May of 2006, directed by Ron Howard and with Tom Hanks as the lead character) deals with the cryptex. Due to the controversy and mystery surrounding The Da Vinci Code, we’d expect anyone having interest in this book would love to receive their very own personalized Encrypta cryptex.
